New Year's Eve BBQ 2008
We had a food laden BBQ on new year's eve 2008 at my cousin's place. The weather was great, the company fantastic and the drinks never ending.

Teluk Intan - Lunch at local restaurant
I love the food in Teluk Intan. The dishes are the ones I grew up eating and they are cheap and good. In this instance the restaurant even cooked the "buah petai" my mum brought in with the "sambal" she prepared. We had to do that because the restaurant does not always have this dish and my mum knew it was my favourite!

Steamboat at Cameron Highlands
It was after my mum's birthday. We decided to go up to Cameron Highlands, a few hours away. The drive was pleasant. We booked the Equatorial Hotel apartment. It left much to be desired. The unit is run down and one of the bathroom flooded. The fold out bed which we paid for was not fit to sleep on. Yours truly had a sleepless night. The highlight of the trip was the steamboat dinner at a restaurant next to the hotel.
The night was cool so the steamboat was perfect. The vegetables were grown in the surrounding area do they were very fresh.
The spread was quite extensive. It is charged per head. They are a few combinations you can choose from.

Four Seasons Restaurant - Northbridge Perth

One of our favorites. Patagonian toothfish.

Complimentary Soup - usually pork ribs and lotus root

Combination Meats - Roast Pork and Roast Duck

Combination Meat
This restaurant is quite good and is one of the ones we go to occasionally. The speciality is roast meat as this restaurant is the result of the expansion of the old 'Roasting Duck." Some dishes are good and the price is not over the top. A meal for say 15 people cost us around $350.

February 2008 - Family Dinner in Perth
The family had a dinner in February when other members of the family visited from Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Penang) and Pakistan. It was a pot luck dinner where each of us made a dish.
We even made "muar chi." This is one of Penang's many snack food. In Penang one can find a few stalls selling this in Gurney Drive.
Poh Piah. Unfortunately, we cannot get the authentic poh piah skin so we substituted it with spring roll skin. Not as good but suffice.

Saturday Lunch at Meads South Perth
We decided to have a nice Saturday lunch at Meads Oyster Bar in South Perth. The restaurant was uncharacteristically quiet for a Saturday afternoon. The food was as usual up to par. If you are wondering about the unusual price of the items, it's because they have a 7.5% surcharge on weekends. A lot of places do that now but it's kinda sucks as restaurants are supposed to be mostly for weekends. Yet you get slugged..

Fantastic Food in Teluk Intan, Malaysia
We went on a family vacation in December. Visited KL, Phuket, Teluk Intan and Penang. Of the food in all those places, I still think Penang has the best and cheapest. This lunch in Teuk Intan stood out though. Cost around RM140, about A$50. Phuket is getting quite pricey.

Family Dinner at Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant
This roast duck (and roast pork) place used to be called "The Roasting Duck" but has recently been renovated and turned into a full fledged restaurant.
The food was surprisingly good. A dinner for 16 cost $420 but we did order a lot more food that we could eat.
Above are a few of the dishes I managed to get photos of. The rest was either grabbed too fast by the gang or yours truly forgot to take photos as he was also too busy eating.
A dish which I did not get a photo of and worth trying is the 'Patagonian Tooth Fish' deep fried and topped with soya based sauce of some kind.

Chicken Chop
The previous chicken chop on this blog was prepared by my brother in law. He does it so well that I have not attempted to cook it myself. Why bother when someone can cook for you?
Well, he had to go back to Malaysia for a long holiday didn't he? So I made an attempt myself. The children said it was just as good. Maybe they said that to make me happy.
Don't ask for the recipe. "I cannot remember" (to steal a quote from my mum.) What you see on the plate is what I put in.
