Ipoh Garden Myaree - February 2011

This restaurant has been uprooted from Ipoh Garden in Ipoh to Perth. There are two "Ipoh Gardens" in Perth. Personally I prefer the one in Myaree.

This dinner is another Chinese New Year family reunion. This restaurant was one of the few that did not have a banquet. We ordered from the menu. This was a truly Malaysian Chinese New Year dinner.

Yee Sang was not on the menu but the restaurant allowed us to bring our own.

 Beef rendang.

 Chicken Curry.

Fried Rice. This dish was not very good. You can tell from the looks of it. Fried rice should have that "burnt" smell. This did not.

Inche Kabin. This is a truly Penang Nyonya dish. Chicken marinated in spices and coconut milk. Then deep fried. Simply delicious.

If a dish is delicious, it deserves two photos.

Ipoh Hor Fun. This is actually the signature dish of the restaurant. This dish is also what Ipoh is famous for.

 Peking spare ribs.

 Stir fried vegetables.

For dessert we adjourned to my brother in laws house which was nearby for some cream caramel. This was made by his wife.

Chinese New Year 2011 Banquet - Han Palace Perth

A Chinese banquet is a must have every Chinese New Year. Even in Perth the Chinese Restaurants capitalise on this. Most restaurants will not have a la Carte menu and only serve banquets at $499 to $999 a table, some even charge more.

This year our Chinese New Year banquet was at Han Palace, a high end Chinese Restaurant on Bennett Street, East Perth. In all honesty, we overindulged as usual. There was plenty of food left at the end of the night.

Table Setting
 Abalone and bok choy
 Braised Pork
 Chilli Lobster Singapore Style

The must have Yee Sang. Salmon shashimi and condiments.
A plate of served up Yee Sang... MINE!
 Crispy skin chicken.
 Fried Rice.
 Lion Dance for prosperity.

 Crab meat balls.
Shark's fin served in an elegant bronze bowl.
We should be boycotting shark's fin really. Well let's start after this.
Fish cooked two ways. Steamed and fried.
Fish cooked two ways. A very delicious mixture of texture.
Mango pudding in the shape of a carp for dessert.

Marriott Sky City - Man Ho - January 2011

It was our last day in Hong Kong. We decided to dine in the Hotel and we felt like having Dim Sum again. The Man Ho restaurant served Dim Sum but they did not do it the traditional way from the trolleys. You ordered it from the waiter.
In Dim Sum, the condiments play an important role. These are chilli sauces.
I believe this is a dried shrimp chili paste. It is very tasty.
 Siew Mai and Har Kau.
 Lor Mai Kai.
 The Menu.
Munchies to kept you happy while waiting for the food. This is peanuts.
 Cucumber pickles.
 Steamed rice flour rolls stuffed.
The elegant table setting. This was a fine dining restaurant I think.
The tea had a heating base.
The wanton noodles was nice but can't beat Mak's obviously.
I love the egg noodles in Hong Kong. They are so springy.

Hong Kong Central - Yung Kee (Round 2) - January 2011

We knew we had to go back to the famous Yung Kee. People told us you could meet famous Hong Kong Film stars there. We did not meet any. People also told us we had to try the famous goose (Siew Ngor.)

Footnote: After I came back to Perth I read that the roaster at the Regal Restaurant in Perth was once the Master Roaster at Yung Kee! Lucky us!

Beef brisket noodle. I can't get enough of this.
Something to have again. Century Eggs.
The famous roast goose. I found it too gamey. I prefer duck.

Sky City Marriott - Sky City Bistro - January 2011

After staying 5 days at the Marriott Central we moved to the Sky City Marriott located near the Airport in Lantau. We would use this base to visit Disneyland and other Lantau attractions such as the Citygate Factory Outlet at Tung Chung.

For dinner the first night we decided to stay in and have dinner at the Bistro.

It was Burger Night. This is the Sky City Burger.
The Pat Thai was average but this wasn't Phuket.
We also missed Pizza so why not.

Hong Kong - Crystal Lotus Restaurant - January 2011

As we were visiting Disneyland, we decided it was best to have breakfast either somewhere near or in Disneyland itself. We also decided we wanted to have Dim Sum (or Yum Cha as some people call it) since we were in Hong Kong, the birthplace of Dim Sum.

When we reached Disneyland, I asked one of the staff where I could get Dim Sum. She said I could go to one of the Disneyland hotels or to a restaurant inside Disneyland itself. We decided to go to the one inside Disneyland, "The Crystal Lotus" restaurant.

The food turned out pretty good and the price was reasonable.

View of the Restaurant

Custard Bun. Notice the Mickey Mouse Logo.
 Bean Curd Roll.
 Rice Roll (Cheong Fun)
 Lor Mai Kai (Glutinous Rice)
How can one have Dim Sum without Char Siew Pau (Char Siew Bun)
Har Kau (steamed prawn dumplings)
